Morris Mucha, by Ady Szucik | Glastonbury Murals
Located along Bove Town in Glastonbury, Morris Mucha is a mural by artist Ady Szucik, forming part of the evolving Glastonbury Mural Trail. The work is a fusion of two major artistic influences: the flowing, figurative style of Alphonse Mucha, a leading figure of Art Nouveau, and the intricate, nature-based pattern design associated with William Morris. This hybrid influence is clearly visible in the composition. A central female figure, rendered with soft features, stylised hair, and a floral headdress, reflects Mucha’s characteristic portrait style, while the surrounding mural is filled with dense foliage, repeating leaves, and decorative structure more typical of Morris’s textile work.
Unlike a direct pastiche, the mural adapts these historical styles into a contemporary street-art format. Positioned on a low wall rather than a large façade, Morris Mucha works at a more intimate scale than many murals on the trail. This makes it easy to overlook, but also allows the detail, particularly in the layered vegetation and fine linework, to be appreciated at close range.
