Viking Mural, by DMK, Bere Lane

This striking mural, painted on the side of a house at 93 Bere Lane in Glastonbury, is part of the town’s wider Glastonbury Mural Trail - a growing collection of street art spread across the town. It depicts a powerful Viking figure set against a luminous, almost mythic backdrop: a full moon behind him, a sword slung across his shoulder, and below, a dragon-headed longship cutting through water, accompanied by a raven. The imagery is striking. The Viking, raven, and longship are all loaded with Norse symbolism - warfare, journeying -  giving the piece a sense of movement and narrative rather than just decoration. In the context of Glastonbury, a place layered with myth and reinterpretation of history, it sits comfortably alongside other esoteric themes found elsewhere in the town.

The mural was created by the artist DMK, one of the more prominent contributors to the Glastonbury's mural trail. His work across Glastonbury is recognisable for its bold, high-contrast style and fantasy-driven subject matter, often drawing on folklore, mythology, and symbolic figures. The Viking mural reflects the broader aim of the mural trail - not just to decorate, but to embed storytelling and identity into the town’s everyday streets.
